Make your Plants Healthy with Compost and Mulch

Compost Recipe

  • In a compost pile,bin, or tumbler,
  • Contribute roughly equal amounts of high-nitrogen items such as fresh leaves and grass and non-meat and dairy kitchen scraps and carbon-rich materials such as dried fall leaves, plants material and shredded recyclable paper such as newspaper.
  • Add water and mix.
  • It is important to keep moisture in the compost pile and to mix on a regular basis to allow air to circulate.
  • Mix occasionally and allow to decompose for a minimum of 6 months.
Be careful about allowing your compost pile to heat to high temperatures as it is possible it can catch fire. Locate your compost pile away from any structures and trees and keep the grasses around the pile trimmed.
